Development of the Armed Forces: the role of the women in the Army. An Article about what women do in the Army and how is it like for them.

It's known that there are a lot of differences between men and women, not just biological, which is an important one, but also their behaves and ways of acting.

In a world ruled extrictly by men, women have to work hard to reach their objectives and get what they want. The battle they fight is specially hard when we are talking about jobs, and it is even more complicated if we mention the army, as we know this is an area dominated by men.
However, it's considerable how more and more women are joining the army, and are showing that they are as capable as men to do this type of work. Nowadays, between the 10 and 15% of women are part of the most important armies all over the world.

We must talk about US Army, one of the most powerful armies, to appreciate this evident ascent:
America fought in the Gulf War and there, women soldiers, weren't in direct combat units but they showed they could confront combat situations and cultural differences by doing supporting roles. That's why in 1993 and 1994, women could choose wider options of work, as the Federal Law was changed and many restrictions in combat Air Force and in the Navy ships were removed. Nevertheless, there are still some things forbidden for women in this fight against terrorism at present. They aren't allowed to fight in direct combat, including infantry and field's artillery. What's more, they can't join Special Forces such as Rangers, Delta Force, Navy Seals or Green Berets.

It's sad that only a few armies include women and this also coincide with the culture of the country we are talking about. Many of the important armies that we highlight, such as England, France, America, Spain, Belgium, etc… concern to the West, thus it's easy to assess how culture influence this.
However, Germany, one of the most important countries in Europe, excludes women from the army and has been involved in a juridical situation with the European Court of Justice, which said that this legislation was contradictory to the European directive on equal opportunities. Although, the same Court had decided previously, in another case, that although women are allowed to enter the Armed Forces, they don't automatically get the right to enter all sections, which contradicts what they stated afterwards.

What's more, in the British Royal Navy, women aren't allowed to enter the forces because every soldier in every single unit is supposed to serve under operations.

The integration of women in the army has been a difficult process because very few practical measures had been taken to help them integrate. Many facilities have been adapted for them and new rules, such as having their hair cut or tied or allowing them wearing jewellery and make-up, have been taken.

Nevertheless, women regularly suffer discrimination in operational duties and other manoeuvres and also sexual harassment. They find a lot of difficulties to reach better positions or functions. In general, they suffer from lack of respect, as there are so many prejudices regarding woman. Furthermore, now that there are considered equal to men, their chances of joining the army and recruitment have decreased because they are no longer exempt of certain physical tests that seem to be very difficult to pass, specially for females.

In my opinion, women should have the same opportunities as men because they can do just as good as them if they are given the same training. In addition to this, my point of view is that, although women can't do some physical works as they are not as strong as men, they should be allowed to serve wherever they match the requirements asked.

Mujeres en el Ejército

Desarrollo de las Fuerzas Armadas: El papel de la mujer en el Ejército. Un artículo sobre lo que las mujeres hacen en el Ejército y cómo es para ellas.

Es sabido que hay muchas diferencias entre hombres y mujeres, no solamente biológicas, las cuales son importantes, pero también sus comportamientos y maneras de actuar. En un mundo manejado estrictamente por hombres, las mujeres tienen que trabajar duro para alcanzar sus objetivos y obtener lo que quieren. La batalla que libran es especialmente dura cuando hablamos de trabajos, y es incluso más complicada si mencionamos el ejército, pues sabemos que es un área dominada por hombres.

Sin embargo, es considerable como más y más mujeres se están uniendo al ejército, y enseñando que son tan capaces como los hombres de hacer este tipo de trabajo. Actualmente, entre el 10 y el 15% de las mujeres forman parte de los ejércitos más importantes alrededor del mundo.

Debemos hablar del Ejército de los Estados Unidos, uno de los ejércitos más poderosos, para apreciar este evidente ascenso:
América luchó en la Guerra del Golfo y allí, las soldados, no pertenecían a las unidades de combate directo pero mostraron que podían enfrentarse a situaciones de combate y diferencias culturales llevando a cabo papeles de apoyo. Es por eso que en 1993 y 1994, las mujeres pudieron elegir opciones de trabajo más amplias, pues la Ley Federal se cambió y muchas restricciones en combate del Ejército del Aire y en los barcos de la Marina se eliminaron. Sin embargo, hay todavía cosas prohibidas para las mujeres en esta lucha contra el terrorismo en el presente. No se las permite luchar en el combate directo, incluyendo infantería y artillería de campo. Además, no pueden unirse a fuerzas especiales como los Rangers, la Delta Force, los Navy Seals o los Boinas Verdes.

Es triste que sólo unos pocos ejércitos incluyan a las mujeres y esto también coincide con la cultura del país del que estemos tratando. Muchos de los ejércitos más importantes que destacamos, como Inglaterra, Francia, América, España, Bélgica, etc... pertenecen al Oeste, por lo tanto es fácil valorar como la cultura influencia esto.
Sin embargo, Alemania, uno de los países más importantes de Europa, excluye a las mujeres del ejército y se ha visto envuelto en una situación jurídica con el Tribunal de Justicia Europeo, que ha dicho que esta legislación era contradictoria para la directiva europea sobre la igualdad de oportunidades para hombres y mujeres. Aunque, el mismo Tribunal, había decido previamente, en otro caso, que aunque a las mujeres se les permita entrar en el Ejército, no obtienen automáticamente el derecho de entrar a todas las secciones, lo que contradice lo que afirmaron más tarde.
Además, en la Real Marina Británica, a las mujeres no se les permite entrar en las fuerzas porque cada soldad en cada unidad debe servir, supuestamente, bajo operaciones.

La integración de la mujer en el ejército ha sido un difícil proceso porque muy pocas medidas prácticas fueron tomadas para ayudarlas a integrarse. Se han adaptado muchas facilidades para ellas y muchas reglas, como tener el pelo cortado o recogido y permitirles llevar joyas o maquillaje, se han tomado.
Sin embargo, las mujeres sufren regularmente discriminación en tareas operacionales y otras maniobras y también acoso sexual. Encuentran un montón de dificultades para alcanzar mejores posiciones o funciones. En general, sufren de falta de respeto, pues hay muchos prejuicios con respecto a las mujeres. Además, ahora que se consideran iguales a los hombres, sus oportunidades de entrar en el ejército y el reclutamiento han disminuido porque ya no están exentas de ciertas pruebas físicas que parecen ser muy difíciles de superar, sobre todo para las chicas.

En mi opinión, las mujeres deberían tener las mismas oportunidades que los hombres porque ellas pueden hacerlo igual de bien que los hombres si reciben el mismo entrenamiento. Además de esto, mi punto de vista es que, aunque las mujeres no puedan realizar cierto tipo de actividades físicas pues no son tan fuertes como los hombres, debería permitírseles servir donde sea que ellas cumplan con los requerimientos que se piden.
