¿Alguna vez has tenido la experiencia de probar el sabor americano sin moverte de tu casa? Nuestros estudiantes de 4º de ESO pudieron disfrutar de este momento la semana pasada gracias a la visita de cuatro estudiantes de la Universidad de Oregón (OSU), que se encuentran estos días en Santander estudiando Español como Lengua Extranjera (ELE) en el Centro de Idiomas de la Universidad de Cantabria (CIUC).

Have you ever had the experience of tasting the American flavour without leaving home? Last week our pupils of 4th ESO were able to enjoy this moment thanks to the visit of four students from Oregon State University (OSU http://oregonstate.edu/) that are learning Spanish as a Foreign Language in the Universidad de Cantabria (CIUC http://www.unican.es/ciuc/). This year La Salle Santander has started working with them in order to bring their accent and traditions into our classrooms. Thus the students of 4th ESO took the chance to reinforce their spoken skills, apart from learning interesting facts from a country that is so attractive, and sometimes unknown to us.

The North American students were asking questions to our kids. At the beginning they answered them timidly, but with enthusiasm at the end of the session. They could learn where Oregon is and the great diversity and extension of the American territory. This meeting was a first contact. From now on we will continue with the development of the spoken skills in small groups. Therefore, we will offer in November Tea Time sessions to students of 3º and 4º ESO and Bachillerato. This is a conversation activity of organized by Salle Joven and the Department of Foreign Languages, and our "guests" will be with us.

Muy atentos a las explicaciones.

Within this project that improves English as a Second Language we can also include the visit of two British schools: Prior Pursglove from Guisborough, and Queen Elisabeth from Darlington. The student from Bachiller worked with them in a session where both schools developed their written skills in English and Spanish Language. Through these activities we seek to improve the knowledge of English in order to help our students have the B2 level required in today’s world of work.

Este año nuestro centro ha comenzado a trabajar con ellos para traer su acento y tradiciones a las aulas de La Salle. De esta forma, los alumnos de 4º ESO aprovecharon la oportunidad de practicar su compresión y expresión oral, además de adquirir conocimientos de un país que nos es tan atractivo a la vez que desconocido.

Celebramos un pequeño acto de bienvenida.

Los universitarios norteamericanos lanzaban preguntas a los chicos que contestaban al principio con timidez pero finalmente con entusiasmo. Con ellos aprendieron dónde está Oregón y la gran extensión y diversidad que supone el territorio americano. En este encuentro se buscaba una primera toma de contacto. De ahora en adelante continuaremos con la práctica de la comprensión oral en pequeños grupos. Por ello, se ofertará en el mes de noviembre a los alumnos de segundo ciclo de Secundaria y Bachillerato un Tea Time o Día del Té, actividad ya realizada a través de Salle Joven y del Departamento de Idiomas. Nuestros "invitados" nos acompañarán en varias sesiones de conversación.

¿Dónde está Oregón?.

Dentro de este proyecto de mejora de la lengua inglesa de nuestro centro se incluye también la visita de alumnos ingleses de los colegios Prior Pursglove de Guisborough y Queen Elisabeth de Darlington. Los alumnos de Bachiller trabajaron con ellos en una sesión de compresión y expresión escrita en lengua inglesa y española. A través de estas actividades pretendemos aumentar la práctica del inglés de manera que nuestro alumnado pueda llegar sin dificultades a un nivel B2 exigido en la actualidad para acceder al mundo laboral.
